Children

Having children for a lesbian couple offers a number of different issues.

Firstly, how do you have a child when there is no man in your life? Adoption, or sperm donor are the likely routes, but one (or both) of a couple may have a child from a previous relationship.

But once you have your child, that is when the problems start. Schools, social groups, friends, other parents and so on. So many different occasions when the roles of mother and father come to the fore and when you have to deal with being different from these "tranditional" and "acceptable" family units

Acceptance
This seems to be the most difficult thing for some people. I do not mean 'approval' but acceptance of our right to live our lives as a family.

Children
Having a child is an inalienable right for any woman. But some people feel that unless a man is involved, then it is unacceptable. But surely a child with two loving parents is far more important than whether they are male or female?

Equality
Will there ever be true equality? We are not even allowed to get married, but need to have a Civil Partnership - equal but different.
